Day 01
 

Airport - Bentota

 
  • En route go for a city tour of Colombo (optional).
 

Drive through the commercial and city center area known as the Fort, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. See the busy markets and bazaars of Pettah, visit a Buddhist and a Hindu temple, an old Dutch church and continue to the Cinnamon Gardens residential area. Drive past the Town Hall, Independence Square and the B.M.I.C.H (International Convention Centre).

 
  • Dinner and overnight stay at Bentota.
 
Day 02
 
Bentota - Yala
 
  • Breakfast at the hotel.
 
  • Later leave for Yala National Park for a safari by private jeep.
 
Yala is approximately 1259 kms in extent and is located in the south eastern corner of the Island. The terrain is varied, flat plains alternating with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle a must for any wildlife enthusiast with the specialty being the large number of Elephants, Deer, Wild Boar and Sambhur.
 
  • Rest of the day at leisure in hotel.

Yala - Nuwara Eliya
 
  • Breakfast at the hotel and leave for Nuwara Eliya
 
  • Evening sightseeing tour of the city.
 

Visit the Nuwara Eliya Town, Market place, Golf Course, the Hill Club, and drive around this hill station viewing Lake Gregory.

Day 04
 
Nuwara Eliya - Kandy
 
  • Breakfast at the hotel
 
  • En route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory. At the tea factory witness the process of manufacture of tea from plucking of the green leaves to packeting of the processed tea which is mainly meant for export markets.
 
  • On arrival visit The Temple of Tooth.
 
The main attraction of the city and also the most sacred Buddhist establishment in Sri Lanka is where one of Lord Buddha's tooth is being kept. Built in the 16th century but improvements and additions have been done to this structure until the fall of the Kandy kingdom. A golden canopy was added recently. Daily rituals are being carried out at various offering times to the shrine. A dress code applies for entering the temple. The magnificence has been enhanced by the octagonal pavilion.
 
  • Later visit to the market place, and an arts; crafts showroom. Then drive along the Upper Lake road to get a panoramic view of the Kandy Lake and its environs and drive past the picturesque University premises. Late afternoon witness a cultural pageant highlighting various up country dance forms, including a fire walking display.
 
  • Dinner and overnight stay at Kandy.

  • Visit Pigeon Island National Park
 
Pigeon Island National Parkis one of the two marine national parks of Sri Lanka. The national park is situated 1 km off the coast of Nilaveli, a coastal town. The island's name derives from the rock pigeon which has colonized it. The national park contains some of the best remaining coral reefs of Sri Lanka.
 
  • Visit to Fort Fredrick
 
Fort Fredrick is a fort built by portuguese colonials at Trincomalee, completed in 1624 CE, built on Swami Rock-Konamamalai from the debris of the world famous ancient Hindu Koneswaram Temple (Temple of a Thousand pillars). The Fort of Trincomalee was dismantled and rebuilt by the Dutch in 1665, renamed Fort Fredrick.
 
  • Visit the Lover's Leap
 
A shear rock outcrop called Swami Rock, several meters high above the sea is the tip of the Fort Frederick thus named by the British. having being occupied by the Dutch and the portuguese. The massive Hindu temple dedicated Koneswara has said to have been stood here until it had been destroyed by the Portuguese. A modern temple is now built around the same location. Within the Swami Rock is Lover's Leap where a Dutch Officer's daughter had leapt after a broken affair.
 
  • Visit the Dutch Bay
 
Right in the centre of Trincomalee is the attractive and picturesque Dutch Bay. Swimming is possible despite sometimes dangerous undertows. However, it's more a place for strolling, and ice-cream sellers cater to the evening relaxers.

Ritigala is an ancient Buddhist monastery and mountain in Sri Lanka. The ruins and rock inscriptions of the monastery date back to 1st century BCE. There are many monastic ruins of stones, terrace ways, circular terraces, a stone bridge, and remains of a giant stone banked pond built across a water stream.
 
  • Visit the Minneriya National park, Minneriya for a Jeep Safari
 
  • Leave for a Jeep Safari at Minneriya-Giritale sanctuary to witness wild elephants

The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests. The national park's faunal species include 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish, and 75 species of butterflies.

  • Visit Kanniyai
 
Kanniyai is one of the famous hot springs of Sri Lanka.
 
  • En-route visit either the Dambulla Cave Temple or Sigiriya Rock Fortress (optional - if time permits)
 
  • Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.
 
Like Sigiriya, this is a vast isolated rock mass where King Valagambhahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. The temple consists of a series of 5 caves containing many statues and paintings including a 47 ft. long statue of the Lord Buddha.

  • Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress
 
Sigiriya Rock Fortress, built by King Kassapa in the 05th century A.D. The Lion Rock is a citadel of unusual beauty, rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The base of the rock is ringed by a moat and rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens. See the world famous frescoes of the heavenly maidens of Sigiriya in a sheltered pocket of the rock. Also see the mirror wall and the lion stairway which leads to the summit.
 
  • Continue to Negombo
 
Negombo is a major city in Sri Lanka, located on the west coast of the island and at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon. Negombo is known for its huge and old fishing industry with busy fish markets, and nice sandy beaches. It is one of the most liberal cities in Sri Lanka with modern life style and it's nightlife in luxury hotels, guest houses, finest restaurants and pubs.
