Day 01

Airport - Bentota

  • Welcome, meet and assist and transfer to Bentota.
  • En route go for a City tour of Colombo (Optional).
Drive through the commercial and city centre area known as the Fort, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. See the busy markets and bazaars of Pettah, visit a Buddhist and a Hindu temple, an old Dutch church and continue to the Cinnamon Gardens residential area. Drive past the Town Hall, Independence Square and the B.M.I.C.H (International Convention Centre).
Facing the Indian Ocean, a tropical lagoon and a major river Bentota offers water sports possibilities nowhere else to be found.
  • Rest of the day at leisure in hotel.
  • Overnight at Lihiniya Surf Hotel, Bentota or Taj Exotica, Bentota.
Day 02
Bentota - Galle
  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Later in the morning visit Geoffrey Bawa Gardens.
The gardens at Lunuganga are a rare tropical Eden created by Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lankas most influential architect. And what started out as an abandoned rubber estate, is now one of the most unique places to stay in the country. Over a span of 50 years, Bawa lovingly made this enchanting house and its gardens his spiritual home, which is known today as his most personal lifes work. The intriguing estate in the coastal town of Bentota has interesting history of evolution.
  • Afterwards leave for Galle.
  • En route visit a mask and batik factory in Ambalangoda.
Ambalangoda is famous as the home of devil dancing and mask making. Colourful masks worn during traditional dance are carved out of soft wood and brightly painted. Handloom products such as batiks and hand-woven cottons are also found here.
  • On arrival in Galle visit the Galle Dutch Fort.
Galle is in the south of Colombo, it is a town with an old world charm believed to be Tarshish of the Bible, and the natural harbour was a famous port in days gone by, taken from the Sinhala Kings in 1587 by the portuguese, who erected the first fortifications, Galle was laid siege to by the Dutch in 1640. It is also known for its lace making, ebony carving and gem polishing.
  • Visit Galle Dutch Museum and Dutch Fort.
The Dutch Fort faces the sea on three sides and its ramparts, over a mile long, are today a favourite promenade for Galles citizens.
  • Overnight at The Lady Hill, Galle or Jetwing Light House Hotel, Galle.

Day 03
Galle - Yala
  • Morning after breakfast leave for Yala.
  • En route visit the Bundala National Park.

Bundala National Park is a very good destination for Birdwatching. Located approx 15 kilometers east of Hambantota and a similar distance west of Tissamaharama. The park is a haven for migrant and resident birds and for its wetland habitat Bundala is most famous for its migratory and resident birds. The park is an important wetland sanctuary thats been declared a Ramsar site. The migration period from August with the commencement of the winter and continues up to mid April, when the Southern Hemisphere attracts them with plenty of food and sunshine.

The 6200 ha park Bundala was first declared as a Sanctuary in 1969 and now a national park.

  • Overnight at Tissamaharama Rest House, Tissamaharama or Yala Village, Yala.
Day 04
  • Morning breakfast at hotel leave to Yala National Park for a safari by private jeep.
Yala is approximately 1259 Kms in extent and is located in the south eastern corner of the Island. The terrain is varied, flat plains alternating with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle a must for any wildlife enthusiast with the specialty being the large number of Elephants, Deer, Wild Boar and Sambhur.
  • Rest of the day at leisure in hotel
  • Overnight at Tissamaharama Rest House, Tissamaharama or Yala Village, Yala.

Day 05
Yala - Nuwara Eliya
  • Breakfast at hotel and leave for Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Sri Lankas tea country producing part of the worlds best tea. Pidurutalagala (8282 ft) which is Sri Lankas highest mountain is located here. Nuwara Eliya is the location of rone of the finest 18 hole golf Courses in Asia.
  • Overnight at Silver Falls Hotel, Nuwara Eliya or The Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya.
Day 06
  • Early morning leave the hotel with packetted breakfast for an excursion to Horton Plains by a private jeep.
Horton plains is a strict nature reserve, the highest plateau in Sri Lanka. Nature lovers will love this wide, Patna-grass covered plain, the haunt of several wild yet harmless animals and the home for many species of birds. ‘Bride paths through the plains will take you to the precipice, popularly referred to as Worlds End, a sheer drop of 1050 metres. The view when it is clear of mist is magnificent.
  • Later visit Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
Hakgala Botanical Gardens, with exotic trees, shrubs and herbs known to thrive best in hill country. It has an excellent rare collection of roses, orchids, and a carefully ended fernery.
  • Evening sightseeing tour of the city.
Visit the Nuwara Eliya Town, Market place, Golf Course, the Hill Club, and drive around this hill station viewing Lake Gregory.
  • Overnight at Silver Falls Hotel, Nuwara Eliya or The Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya.

Day 07
Nuwara Eliya - Kandy
  • En route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory.
At the tea factory witness the process of manufacture of tea from plucking of the green leaves to packeting of the processed tea which is mainly meant for export markets.
  • Check in to your hotel in Kandy.
  • Afternoon visit The Temple of Tooth.
The main attraction of the city and also the most sacred Buddhist establishment in Sri Lanka is where one of Buddha's tooth is being kept. Built in the 16th century but improvements and additions have been done to this structure until the fall of the Kandy kingdom. A golden canopy was added recently. Daily rituals are being carried out at various offering times to the shrine. A dress code applies for entering the temple. The magnificence has been enhanced by the octagonal pavilion.
Later visit to the Market Place, and an Arts & Crafts showroom. Then drive along the Upper Lake Road to get a panoramic view of the Kandy lake and its environs and drive past the picturesque University premises. Late afternoon witness a cultural pageant highlighting various up country dance forms, including a fire walking display.
  • Overnight at Queens Hotel, Kandy or Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Kandy.
Day 08
  • After breakfast, visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden.
Peradeniya Botanical Garden, where a rare collection of tropical exotic and indigenous flora can be viewed and also the famous Orchid House.
  • Later leave for airport
  • En route visit the Elephant Orphanage
Elephant Orphanage, where you can view the feeding of elephants, which takes place daily. The highlight of this event is to observe feeding of baby elephants using Milk bottles. (all these events can be photographed.) After feeding of the elephants they will be taken by foot to nearby river for their daily bath.
  • Arrive at Katunayake International Airport for drop.
