This 2 suite, 1 bedroom rustic luxury bungalow nestled in between rolling coconut and pineapple estates is only a 45 minute drive (36Km) from Colombo in one of the last vestiges of true rural Sri Lanka …. the farming hamlet of Kirindiwela, in the Gampaha district. The surrounding area is steeped in tradition against a rich historical and cultural backdrop. Buddhist cave temples dating as far back as 2 BC are situated in the vicinity and the near by churches are visited by pilgrims from all parts of the island.

Luxury Hideaway..... The 2 suites are luxurious yet functional and have been thoughtfully appointed taking into consideration that maxim “unwind”. The suites come with open air bathrooms which are appointed with their own Jacuzzi's that guarantee guests an invigorating revival from the travails of the world outside. An in-house bar and an equally well stocked DVD and paperback library give guests further cause to just make themselves feel “at home”.

The culinary ensemble at the bungalow is diverse and caters to whatever a guest's palette is accustomed to or even what they might dare to try. Guests can reassure themselves that most of the ingredients that go into food preparation at the bungalow are grown organically on the estates very own 2 acre vegetable patch and fruit garden.

The guests also have the luxury of browsing around the vegetable patch and hand picking whatever vegetable and fruits they will like to eat or get cooked...and enjoyed indoor or outside.

Al fresco breakfasts, intimate romantic dinners or festive banquets are just some of the delights created by the staff to turn your holiday into great memories. Dine on the wrought iron terrace or in house at the designer Maran wood table and chairs – each easily accommodates 6 guests. The versatile and Colombo trained chef combines east and West styles and much of the Estates produce. Guests are encouraged to visit and learn styles of cooking and interesting recipes.

BBQ's are always popular for which meat and fish are selected from Colombo 's best suppliers – peppered steak, pork chops in mustard, seared fish in lemongrass and pepper.

Nature Trails

The nature trail begins right outside Hideaway, where you leave the lane and head into the countryside. A minimum of 2km to a maximum of 10km. In-between you get a glimpse into an array of birdlife, butterflies, domestic livestock, colorful plants, fruits and flowers, farmland and lifestyles. The trek winds its way up to the little rock mountain vantage point where you get to see the surrounding countryside. Caution is required when the rock is wet and when heading to the northernmost point. Recommended companions are long pants, waking shoes, binoculars, camera and sunhat.

Abseiling & Caving

Granite rock, some a few hundred feet high are the perfect setting for an abseil. Intricate cave systems, mostly ruins of a bygone era add to the excitement. A few natural caves and rock faces are used for this sport with all state-of-the-art safety equipment provided. A perfect way to venture into the vertical world if you have not done it before.

The Waturagoda caves

Stumbled upon by chance, are these unique cave systems created by nature but used by man some 800 years and beyond. To explore these cave one has to first climb a combinations of boulders then abseil down, with a bit of technicality involved, into the main cave itself. Here a gushing stream appears from nowhere to form a natural pool, an absolutely splendid place for a swim. It is said through folktale that the king used to bathe here, but not debatable is the fact that the waters contain high herb and mineral content.

You follow the stream down, then climb up out of the cave. Helmets, headlight torches, abseiling equipment and guides are provided by the hotel. Be prepared to get wet, and inform the management in advance for a visit, as these caves are exclusive to the hotel guests only.

An intricate road network consisting of tarred and gravel roads, footpaths and paddy bunds make biking an experience. Expect the odd “hi”, “hello” and wave as you speed across the countryside negotiating chickens, dogs and cattle.

The bikes are best used in the morning or evening along the trail made by Hideaway. A few quality bikes are available, so is a guide who will ride with you. If you are a strong rider you may peddle up to the little rock vantage point.
