Arugam Bay is one of the world's top ten surf locations, known for its fantastic waves, which attract surfers from overseas.

The main building at Stardust Beach Hotel was designed by architect and owner Merete Scheller, and completed in 2005. The spacious double rooms include private bathroom, telephone, fridge and your own terrace with views over Arugam Bay. Comforts include quality mattresses, mosquito net, ceiling fan and natural cooling from the delightful sea breeze.
You can go surfing, relax on the beach, watch the fishing boats or shop in the local market. Visit some of the historic temples near the village, or check out the lagoon where elephants have their evening 'shower'. Do a day trip to Lahugala National Park to see wild elephants, or visit Yala National Park, which is home to an astonishing range of birdlife.
Products & Services :Apart from a beautiful ambience and cleanliness many small details add to the comfort of each room: Quality matresses, a mosquito net or repellant (you choose), and of course soap, tissues, a supply of ice cold (or hot) drinking water, and a cup of tea or coffee when you wake up in the morning. All rooms are well-ventilated and fan cooled. (We do not use air conditioning as the sea breezes in Arugam Bay make it quite unnecessary.
We offer both simple and rich fare - which includes a fine selection of specialities and dishes from around the world. Service is discreet but attentive. And besides delicious local drinks like lassi, you have access to an extensive wine cellar - the first on the East of the island All servings are plentiful. No ready-made foods are used - only the best & freshest ingredients, low fat oils and genuine butter (a rarity in this part of the world).
Arugam Bay is in the remote South East of the Island of Sri Lanka, close to Pottuvil - an area few tourists visit. Inland is a band of jungle 70km wide. Wild elephants roam the coastal plain and the small but delightful Lahugala National Park about 10 miles inland, and an astonishing range of birdlife migrates to the wetlands and the huge Yala National Park which starts about 20 miles to the south.
