MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK – SAFARI CAMP
|
Located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa, the 8,890 hectares of MINNERIYA
NATIONAL PARK consists of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas and
is home to favourites such as sambar deer, leopards and elephants. However
the central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built
in 3 rd century AD by King Mahasena). During the dry season (June to
September), this tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants
who come to bathe and graze, as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants
and painted storks to name but a few) that come to fish in the shallow
waters.

SCHEDULE |

Day One – Clients will be
met by the tour leader around 12.00 noon and taken to the luxury
camp. There you will be briefed on the camping rules and have lunch.
After a short break you will go on the evening 4WD safari. Finishing
the safari you will be welcomed to a delightful camping atmosphere with
campfire and lanterns to enjoy the evening barbecue meal.
Day Two – After breakfast
at leisure, departure by 12.00 noon .

The SAFARI CAMP in Minneriya is situated at the border of the
park, with a wonderful forest boundary atmosphere, which ensures you're
right in the heart of nature. Forget any ideas about cramped tents and
sitting on the ground for meals – this is camping in style! The camp
is set up prior to your arrival, transporting in comfortable tents, a
fully equipped kitchen, chairs and tables, hammocks, flushable toilets,
showers and even cold beer. In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue
meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional
flame torches and a roaring campfire. So sit back, relax and let our
experienced staff cater to your every need.
